Abstract Potentials evoked both by light flash and by electrical shocks to the optic chiasma and optic tract were recorded from the lateral geniculate body during retrograde degeneration. Six rabbits and six cats were studied for up to 22 weeks following ablation of primary visual cortex. Results indicate that amplitude changes over time show the same general trends for both species, although specific differences were noted. Interpretation of the electrophysiological data is made with regard to the histological findings reported in the preceding study.
