The Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status is a crucial metric for evaluating patients with cancer because it informs the prognosis and treatment decisions. Discrepancies in patient and physician assessments of performance status are often due to psychosocial factors, which must be better characterized and ameliorated in the future.
