Prospective, randomized data regarding the use of postmastectomy radiotherapy (PMRT) in women who receive neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) are lacking. The usefulness of PMRT in patients who respond well to NAC forms the basis of the ongoing National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP) B51/Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) 0413 clinical trial. Herein, the authors review the current literature examining the role of PMRT in women who receive NAC prior to surgery.
