To date, the use of prostate‐specific antigen (PSA) screening in the U.S. has translated into lower PSA failure rates and, perhaps, to lower rates of disease‐specific mortality in men with prostate carcinoma. However, this later point remains a hypothesis and will be proven right or wrong in short order based on upcoming results from randomized screening studies. See also pages 943–51.
