The Front Cover shows Guineensine in the foreground, a natural product derived from the fruits of black pepper, Piper nigrum , and several other pepper species. Guineensine is a natural uptake inhibitor of endocannabinoids, thereby showing cannabimimetic and also pronounced antiinflammatory effects. The authors devised a total synthesis of Guineensine in five steps. Additionally, they synthesized derivatives of Guineensine for studying structure–activity relationships.
