The back cover picture shows the structure–affinity relationships of biphenyl antagonists of FimH, the adhesive subunit of E. coli type 1 fimbriae, analyzed by isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC). The excellent correlation between van der Waals (vdW) volumes of a series of substituents and enthalpy clearly indicates the importance of shape complementarity.
