The insulin‐like growth factor receptor (IGF‐IR) is a receptor tyrosine kinase that simultaneously regulates proliferation, by MAPK activation, and survival, by the PI3K/Akt pathway, of cells, indicating that IGF‐IR inhibitors might possess anticancer properties. This review will focus on both cancer biology of IGF‐IR and novel ATP‐competitive inhibitors of IGF‐IR.
