Abstract The guest editors invite you to enjoy the following two‐part collection of peer‐reviewed articles dedicated expressly to the topic of "cytokinesis" and one of this field's most influential pioneers, the late Ray Rappaport, Ph.D. This collection, by design, represents a broad cross section of the current issues, subtopics, model systems, and methodologies in the field of cytokinesis research. While we made the conscious effort to be as inclusive as possible, this special issue was subject to certain size restrictions, which precluded us from inviting contributions from an even larger segment of the rapidly expanding cytokinesis community. We would like to convey our sincere thanks to each of the contributing authors and the reviewers who evaluated their work. Without your combined talents and efforts, this special tribute to Ray would never have come to fruition. The articles featured in this collection are outstanding across the board, and each of them benefited from the timely, insightful comments provided by the reviewers. We would also like to thank the publisher, Wiley‐Blackwell, for providing us with this unique forum. Finally, and most importantly, we would like to acknowledge our indebtedness to you, Ray — your provocative insights and experimental work continue to have a profound shaping influence on the field and lure fertile new minds to investigate the fascinating phenomena of cytokinesis.
