Hereditary Hemochromatosis, Iron Overload Hereditary hemochromatosis is one of the most common genetic disorders among Caucasians of northern European descent. The prevalence of the disorder in that region is approximately one in 250 people. Hereditary hemochromatosis and it’s much rarer variant ‘the ferroportin disease’ are described in the recent issue of CLD devoted to Heavy Metals and the liver.
