Summary : Recent investigations suggest that the immune system plays a major role in the pathogenesis of two distinct forms of cardiovascular disease, Kawasaki disease (KD) and graft “atherosclerosis,” following cardiac transplantation. However, the precise immunologic mechanisms that lead to vessel injury in these two clinical entities are as yet undefined. The purpose of this symposium was to review some of the more important ongoing investigations in both fields.
