Abstract The pulmonary circulation and its systemic arterial supply in cases of pulmonary atresia were studied angiocardiographically. In 69% of the cases the pulmonary arteries were hypoplastic and supplied by a patent ductus arteriosus or a few large systemic arteries. A classification into four groups is suggested, and a developmental paradox represented by this classification is discussed.
