Indirect indices of myocardial oxygen consumption (MV̇O 2 ) are frequently applied to humans, both in health and disease, to estimate the energetic state of the myocardium. Despite widespread use, the validity of the previously reported oxygen consumption parameters has not yet been proven. Therefore, we designed experiments to examine any indices under maximal variations of hemodynamics and oxygen consumption with special reference to clinically applicable indices.
