The strategy of coordination molecular engineering is demonstrated for the molecular design, material synthesis, property optimization, and understanding of the structure‐property relationship of photofunctional materials. By the combination of different metal ions and well‐designed polypyridyl ligands, coordination molecular materials and assemblies have been prepared to exhibit appealing near‐infrared electrochromism, switchable luminescence in response to various stimuli, and high efficiency of light‐harvesting energy transfer.
