The particle size of metal nanoparticles (NPs) plays decisive roles in metal‐catalyzed heterogeneous reactions, because the geometric and electronic properties of metal NPs vary drastically with size. This review discusses the fundamentals of the size‐dependent geometric and electronic properties of metal NPs and their general roles in catalysis. The previous studies of the particle size effect in catalysis are also summarized and discussed metal‐by‐metal. More details are discussed in the article by Lu et al . on page 1422–1444.
