Facile Synthesis of Symmetrical Triindolylmethanes Catalyzed by Iodine under Solvent‐free Condition

The reaction of various indoles ( 1a – 1k , 3 equiv.) with triethyl orthoformate (1.2 equiv.) catalyzed by I 2 (5 mol%) at room temperature in 2–15 min under a solvent‐free condition afforded the respective symmetrical triindolylmethanes ( 3a – 3k ) in good to excellent yields without any side products.
