The Willgerodt‐Kindler reaction of acetophenone was studied. Apart from the normal product 4‐(benzylthiocarbonyl)morpholine, another product 4‐(benzoylthiocarbonyl)morpholine was obtained unexpectedly. The structure of the latter was confirmed by IR, 1 H NMR spectra and X‐ray diffraction analysis. The mechanism of the reaction was discussed.
