In an open glassware, heating a gas HCFC‐133a (CF 3 CH 2 C1) or HFC‐134a (CF 3 CH 2 F), KOH and a phenol (or an alcohol) in DMSO at 80°C gave ethers ROCF 2 CH 2 X and ( E / Z )‐ROCF = CHX (X = Cl, F) in moderate yields.
