Five novel tetrafluorinated biphenyl acetylene molecules containing two chiral centres in the side chain were synthesized. The mesomorphic behaviour of these compounds was characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and optical polarizing microscopy. All these compounds exhibit cholesteric and blue phases.
