(±)‐Fangchinoline was synthesized by condensation of (±)‐1‐(3‐bromo‐4‐methoxy‐benzyl)‐2‐methyl‐6‐methoxy‐7‐hydroxy‐8‐bromo‐1,2,3,4‐tetrahydroisoquinoline ( 2 ) and (±)‐1‐(4‐hydroxy‐benzyl)‐2‐methyl‐6‐methoxy‐7‐hydroxy‐1,2,3,4‐tetrahydroisoquinoline ( 3 ) in the presence of copper, pyridine and potassium carbonate.
