Abstract The mixing process of high Schmidt number (700‐35000) aqueous solutions was investigated in an oscillating grid mixing vessel. The influence of the following variables on the mixing time was studied: Schmidt number, initial solution concentration, volume ratio of the liquids to be mixed and oscillating grid frequency. The measurements were compared with Corrsin's isotropic turbulent mixing theory. The data were correlated in the form of dimensionless groups, involving the aforementioned variables.
