A cross‐section illumination device is used to observe and measure sample stream deformation in continuous‐flow electrophoresis under the influence of an AC electric field. These observations are interpreted in terms of the electrohydrodynamic effect due to local non‐uniformity in the solution conductivity. A comparison is made between these observations and a numerical model.
