Fine magnetite particles were prepared by oxidation of aqueous ferrous hydroxide suspensions in a bubble column equipped with an internal concentric draft tube. The oxidation reaction rate could be expressed apparently as zero‐order with respect to the concentration of total ferrous species and first‐order with respect to the concentration of dissolved oxygen. The final particle size generally decreased with increasing reaction rate. The geometric Standard deviation of size‐distribution ranged from 1.20 to 1.35 under the present experimental conditions, and increased with an increase in reaction rate.
