Design and development of a pilot scale chromatographic process for separation of trace amounts of krypton from a nitrogen atmosphere is described. The system uses a large column (1.20 m × 0.055 m i.d.) packed with H ‐mordenite adsorbent and operated under overload conditions. A preliminary economic evaluation suggests that this process is competitive with the conventional cryogenic distillation process.
