Integral analysis is used to study laminar natural convection from a vertical radiating fin situated in ambient air thermally stratified according to a power law variation of temperature. The phenomenon is treated as a coupled problem in which all the possible modes of heat transfer are accounted for in the constitutive equations. For stable thermal stratification of the medium, the local Nusselt is found to be a function of the radiation parameter, fin parameter, temperature ratio, stratification parameter, the exponent of the power law ‘m’ and the conventional Gr.Pr product. An approximate design relationship between the various parameters is established by the method of regression.
