Suboptimal control through model reduction

There has been a growing interest in control strategies that optimize a given performance criterion to improve process efficiencies. Optimal control techniques, such as LQP, have been available but did not find much acceptance in process industries because of certain problems that are involved in their application. In this paper an approach is presented which alleviates these problems. Simulation results show that the proposed approach works well for servo and regulatory control problems.
