The analysis of the overall effectiveness factor for the reaction system involving heterogeneous‐homogeneous chain reactions at low concentration of one species is studied. A more general theoretical analysis for estimating the overall effectiveness factor of reaction systems which can be a heterogeneous‐homogeneous chain reaction system at low concentration of one species in a slurry reactor is presented, incorporating all the transport parameters. The concepts of overall effectiveness factors for reactions have been extended from the traditional heterogeneous reaction system to the heterogeneous‐homogeneous chain reaction system. The effects of reaction mechanism and kinetic models on the overall effectiveness factor are also proposed. Comparisons of the overall effectiveness factor for a slurry reactor with or without considering the reaction mechanism are also obtained.
