A conceptual model for the design of an entrained bed reactor is proposed in this article. This mathematical model simulates the continuous changes on the properties of both solid and gas phases inside the reactor. The model also computes the required reactor length for a specific coal conversion. Furthermore, a computer simulation is presented to illustrate the crucial continuous particle acceleration resulting of the coal gasification. We believe this effect must be considered for any appropriate particle residence time definition.
