The optimal designs for experiments to estimate velocity and equilibrium constants in first order chemical kinetic situations are examined. Equations and charts which choose optimal designs are presented. A bioconcentration test using fish as the test organism is used to illustrate the problem and some good experiments of this type performed in the past are compared for efficiency with the corresponding optimal ones. Examples are also given of the statistical analysis of this type of experiment.
