Generalized algebraical expressions were obtained for average individual stage and final effluent concentrations in a cascade of mixing stages in series, without specifying the mixing pattern. Such expressions, combined with the knowledge of particular mining patterns, may be used for solving more complex purging problems. A detailed computation method was given for the specific case of countercurrent purging of a cascade under perfect mixing conditions as an example.
