It often happens that those who carry out experiments must choose between two or more possible theoretical models; the use of the statistic discrimination enables them to make a judicious selection. Several theoretical models have been proposed to represent the actual flow in a dynamic reactor involving stirring in a gas phase. Experiments have been carried out using propylene as a tracer and helium as a gas carrier, and involving feeding rates varying between 2 c. c./second and 33 c. c/second and rotation speeds comprised between 0 and 1000 rpm. The statistic discrimination of models enables to detect an inactive area in the reactor when the rates are lower than 11.8 c. c./second.
