A method is presented for the identification of parameters in the partial differential equations describing the dynamic behaviour of a certain class of one phase flow processes. Included in this class of processes are certain types of heat exchangers and flow reactors in which axial and radial dispersion are not important. The approach employed is to reduce the partial differential equations to an extended system of ordinary differential equations with the method of characteristics. Once in this form the method of quasilinearization is employed to identify the parameters in these ordinary differential equations.
