Grid leakage data for single and multiorifice grids of various designs are given. The effect of the wind box volume on grid leakage has been investigated. A grid having long cylindrical nozzles can reduce solids leakage, but there is a critical nozzle length, for a given grid hole velocity, above which instabilities can occur. A method for computing this critical length is given. Implications for the design of commercial grids are discussed.
