A vapor recompression system for the separation of ethylene from a multicomponent feed has been modeled using the CHESS program and based on data from the Polymer Corporation. The experience in implementing CHESS on a CDC6400, and in using its property calculation features are reviewed. The modification of the CHESS modules, and new unit computations required for the study are described. Some typical applications of the model to seek improvements in plant operation are discussed.
