A detailed study of the variation of the boiling curve with degree of subcooling and liquid velocity has been made for toluene at atmospheric pressure. It is shown that the effect of these two parameters on the nucleate boiling curve is quite complex, but by no means non‐existent, as is often assumed. Mention has been made of the possible bearing of the results on selection of a boiling mechanism.
