A modified Hallimond tube technique has been used to obtain information on the flotation characteristics of galena. The technique has general application to 1 to 2 gram samples of any relatively pure mineral. The influences of stirring rate, gas flow rate, flotation time, pH, particle size, xanthate chain length, and collector concentration have been measured and correlations between some of these factors discussed. The effect of high xanthate concentration on flotation rate has been studied in some detail and discussed in relation to the adsorption of the collector on the mineral.
