Experiments have been carried out to determine the minimum elutriation velocity for inverse fluidisation system using single and binary systems of four different solids of polymeric materials of different sizes and shapes, and four different non‐Newtonian pseudoplastic liquids in two different Perspex columns. The effects of different operating parameters on elutriation velocity have been investigated. Empirical correlations have been developed to predict the minimum elutriation velocity as a function of physical and dynamic variables of the system. Statistical analysis of the correlation suggests that is of acceptable accuracy.
