Abstract Pyrolysis of Sewage Sludge Combined with Gasification of Char. Dried sewage sludge was pyrolyzed over a temperature range of 550 to 650°C and the char produced during this reaction was gasified with steam in a succeeding step at 900°C. Both reactions were carried out in a fluidized‐bed reactor. Besides the composition of products, vaporization of heavy metals and the suitability of the gasification ash for landfilling were investigated. The results indicate that the combined process of pyrolysis and gasification of char can be looked upon as a promising method of disposing of sewage sludge.
