Anaerobic waste water treatment. This article surveys the development of a high‐performance anaerobic reactor by overcoming biological and technological limitations. These limitations are discussed for various reactor types. The most suitable basis for a high‐performance reactor is provided by the anaerobic fluidized bed process.
