Liquid membrane technology – A survey of associated phenomena, transport mechanisms, and models. Liquid membrane permeation is the name given to a simultaneous extraction/stripping process. A summary of related phenomena, mass transfer, and models is presented. A new model has been developed to describe mass transfer in liquid membranes, in which the spherical droplets serve as reaction centres. An account of present applications demonstrates the limitations of liquid membrane processes.
