We undertook an immunohistochemical study of cutaneous SCC (cSCC) and its precursors actinic keratosis (AK) and Bowen’s disease (BD) and found that nucleocytoplasmic expression patterns of p62 were substantially different between the cSCC precursors. Because p62 serves as a guardian of DNA damage responses, in a similar way as tumor protein 53, we consider that the different staining patterns between AK and BD could reflect distinctive etiopathologies.
