The reaction of hexachlorophosphazene, P 3 N 3 Cl 6 , with SO 3 and the gold halides AuCl 3 and AuBr 3 , respectively, leads to the new cyclic anionic tetramer, [S 4 N 2 O 10 ] 2− , which is coordinated to Au 3+ in the dimeric complexes [Au 2 X 2 (S 4 N 2 O 10 ) 2 ] ( X =Cl, Br). The [S 4 N 2 O 10 ] 2− anion can be seen as the condensation product of two sulfate anions, [SO 4 ] 2− , and two amidosulfate anions, [NH 2 SO 3 ] − .
