In a musical allegory for chemical synthesis a guitar player in a flask creates notes that become an organic compound. Even a gifted musician needs a good instrument to express her/his talent in the best possible way. Likewise, even a skillful chemist needs a set of tools that allows new molecules to be constructed efficiently. In their Review (DOI: 10.1002/chem.202102108), O. O. Grygorenko et al. cover one example of such tools—saturated boronic derivatives. Applications of the title compounds in synthetic and medicinal chemistry are discussed. Artwork by Vitalii Boklashchuk.
