Coating nanoparticles : The graphic showcases the highly versatile shell‐by‐shell (SbS) coating concept for inorganic nanoparticles. This noncovalent functionalization enables the implementation of a wide array of amphiphiles and results in a polarity umpolung of the initial core–shell nanomaterial. The resulting double–layer architecture facilitates a confined space that can be utilized for the encapsulation of nonpolar water contaminants such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs).
