Luminescent lanthanide‐based silsesquioxane cages : An association of coordination and sol‐gel chemistries is a powerful tool to design new functional materials. A new family of tetranuclear lanthanide‐based cage‐like silsesquioxanes with unusual prism‐like topology was readily obtained. They exhibit efficient Eu 3+ or Tb 3+ characteristic emissions in solid state, which makes them the first luminescent cage‐like silsesquioxanes.
