In competitive extraction experiments , receptors functionalized with 2,2’‐bipyridine (bpy) and o ‐phenylene‐bis(urea) (pbu) binding sites that are interconnected with methylene linker exhibit very high affinity towards CuSO 4 in the presence of other divalent first‐row transition metal sulfates. Synergistic recognition of divalent d‐block metal ions and tetrahedral oxoanions by these receptors induces self‐assembly of triple‐stranded helicates.
