Metal‐catalyzed C−H functionalization has been popularized in organic synthesis to construct C−X (X=C, hetero atoms) bonds from readily available starting materials in a high atom‐ and step‐economical manner. In their Minireview on page 9366 ff., R. Santhoshkumar and C. H. Cheng discuss the reaction medium for C−H functionalization methods to synthesize some of the useful heterocycles, particularly focusing on sustainable solvents as of CHEM21 solvent selection guideline. By using less harmful solvents, it is feasible to enhance further the “greenness” of C−H functionalization strategies towards sustainable environment in academic as well as industry.
