An overview of the synthesis, properties, and applications of fluoropolymers (PFs) is presented. A first part summarizes conventional strategies as well as RDRP (especially ITP, RAFT and CMRP) of fluorinated alkenes. Secondly, PFs can be designed as macromonomers, polycondensates, multiblock copolymers, macromonomers, cross‐linked networks, and (s)IPNs. Then, these advanced materials can be involved in many high‐tech applications ranging from aerospace materials, microfluidic devices, protective coatings, self‐assembly items, optically transparent films, thermoplastic elastomers, and materials for energy (including membranes). This overview summarizes these emerging fields, emphasizing structural variety, end group functionalities, post‐polymerization modifications, and applications previously unobtainable without accessible to these new materials.
