Sulfonyl functional groups , such as sulfones, sulfonyl chlorides or sulfonamides, play an important role in organic chemistry, with various applications that include the construction of biologically active compounds. Recently, sulfur dioxide has been used via radical‐based transformations to construct molecules with sulfonyl moieties. The Minireview by Manolikakes et al. on page 11852 ff. highlights recent advances in the use of sulfur dioxide in radical reactions, covers some historical background of the field, discusses limitations of existing methods, and examines potential further developments.
