While peroxides in general are rather unstable , alkenyl and aryl peroxides prove to be more so. Apart from a few exceptions, they only exist as short‐lived intermediates. This review discusses their special role in the night‐time atmosphere as well as formation and properties in solution, symbolized here by the graphic based on a photo taken in Svalbard. It was also suggested that they play a role in biochemistry—do you spot the walruses? For more information, see the Minireview by M. Klussmann on page 4480 ff.
