The crucible‐free solid‐gas reaction of tungsten with boron tribromide was investigated using the hot‐wire method. Gaseous boron tribromide reacts on the surface of a tungsten wire under the formation of free bromine and some tungsten bromides in the gas phase. Several solid phases are obtained on the surface of the wire, for example, a WB layer separated from the tungsten core by a W 2 B layer.
